There was a time not so long ago, when people traveling to the rural side of the places used to see one or few factories in the distance chugging away to glory. These industries played a key role in development of the area with improvements into infrastructure development, both by the individual player or the Government in charge. Take this as a base and you would realise how many places in rural India gained prominence due to the industry present there.

Areas developed, local people had improved livelihood and saw prosperity slowly entering into their life the way a train usually enter it’s last leg of journey chugging in on the tracks. It was all green till after a few decades when people realised that the price they had to pay for the prosperity at times was with their health. I still remember, when we were asked to draw a photo of the rural, we had a rising sun in between mountains, a river, green garden and then the industry at far having chimneys that release black smoke. The idea was never to paint the scenario black but to depict the reality.

A deep dive into the study of air and other resources around such industries showed a lot of emissions/particulate emissions/chemicals in water resources/untreated waste on land causing huge landfills. This had a direct impact on the livelihood. This over a period has become a major pain in the backbone of the economy. Furthermore, this prompted many people in power to act for the betterment of the economy and it’s biggest asset, ‘The People’. Thus was born the need for better manufacturing practices.

The authorities required framework to measure, then another set of framework or principles that needs to be implemented by them to make the industries accountable. This brought in improvements in manufacturing processes. However, take to the current scenario with more factories, the same processes started  becoming redundant. Thus out of compulsion for improved sustainable living, a need for taking proper care of mother earth and it’s subjects was born the concept of ESG, ie; Environmental Social and Governance. ESG gives you a set of frameworks that helps you to evaluate the harmful effects of the emissions that an industry is releasing.

ESG gives a broader perspective bringing in all the dimensions. It gives you the framework to measure the impact of a particular industry taking into account the important aspects of manufacturing. The well being of man, the efficiency of the machine and of course the best practices of the complete manufacturing/ assembly line. It governs the broader perspective ensuring that each individual plays a key role in how the future generations get to experience the planet Earth. It drills down the importance of  responsibilities of a collective identity.

In nutshell, ESG is the future. If we as a single entity can put our heart and soul into the ESG Framework, we can be sure that we would be leaving a greener planet for the future generations. Let’s come together to Ignite A Greener Future.
